Marvell, Microsoft and Oracle Work to Standardize Data Center Hardware Security
Marvell, Microsoft and Oracle are collaborating to standardize an integrated hardware security module built to NIST FIPS 140-3 Level 3 for cloud and hyperscale data centers, according to Dark Reading.

Chipmaker Marvell is working with Microsoft and Oracle on an effort to standardize hardware security across cloud and hyperscale data center infrastructure, according to a report from Dark Reading.
The initiative focuses on an integrated hardware security module (HSM) designed to meet NIST's FIPS 140-3 standard at Security Level 3. HSMs are dedicated, tamper-resistant components used to generate, store and use cryptographic keys, keeping sensitive key material isolated from general-purpose servers. FIPS 140-3 is the U.S. government's benchmark for validating cryptographic modules; Level 3 adds stronger physical protections against tampering along with identity-based authentication for operators.
The reported goal is to make such a module a standardized building block for the large-scale data centers run by cloud providers, rather than leaving each operator to rely on divergent, proprietary approaches. A common design could help hardware vendors and cloud operators validate and deploy consistent protections for keys and secrets across fleets of machines.
The source item does not include a timeline, the name of any formal standards body involved, or technical specifications for the module. All details here come from Dark Reading's reporting.
