Apple Adds Setting to Exclude Apps from Siri AI, EFF Says
Apple's latest device update, iOS 27.2, introduces a setting that lets users exclude apps from Siri AI features, according to the Electronic Frontier Foundation, which says the change addresses a request from its Encrypt It Already campaign.

Apple has added a new privacy control to its devices in the iOS 27.2 update, allowing users to exclude specific apps from Siri AI features, according to the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF).
The EFF described the change as a victory, saying it fulfills one of the requests the organization made in its "Encrypt It Already" campaign earlier this year.
The group said one of its main concerns about new AI features on devices is how those features interact with end-to-end encrypted content, particularly content inside secure messaging apps. According to the EFF, many AI features require cloud processing. Even with privacy protections engineered into these systems, the content of secure messaging apps may leave a user's device without their knowledge, the organization said, adding that this changes the privacy considerations for users of encrypted services.
The new "Exclude Apps" setting is intended to give users more control over which apps can be accessed by Siri's AI capabilities, the EFF said. The organization framed the addition as a step toward protecting the confidentiality of end-to-end encrypted communications as AI features become more deeply integrated into operating systems.
The EFF's announcement was published on its Deeplinks blog. The foundation said the setting addresses one of its campaign asks, though its broader campaign has called for further protections around encrypted content and on-device AI processing.
Details of the change and the campaign come from the Electronic Frontier Foundation.
